Contractions in English | English Speaking Course Day 64

Contractions in English – Contractions का मतलब होता है दो या दो से अधिक Words को मिलाकर छोटा करके बोलना। इससे बोलने की स्पीड बढ़ती है और लिखते वक्त कम शब्दों का प्रयोग होता है।

Contractions किस- किस का हो सकता है आइए समझते हैं।
1. Verb + not (Verb का not के साथ Contraction.)
2. Pronoun + Verb (Pronoun का Verb के साथ Contraction.)
3. Verb + Verb (Verb का Verb के साथ Contraction.)
4. Miscellaneous Contractions

तो आइए शुरुआत करते हैं –

Contraction Category -1
Verb+not

Is not – Isn’t (इज़न्ट)

वो स्कूल नहीं जा रहा है।
(Vo school nahi ja raha hai.)
He is not going to school.
He isn’t going to school.

Am not – ain’t (एन्ट)

मुझे कुछ नहीं दिया जाता है।
(Mujhe kuch nahi diya jata hai.)
I am not given anything.
I ain’t given anything.

Are not – aren’t (आन्ट)

वे क्लास में नहीं बैठे हुए हैं।
(Ve class mai nahi bethe hue hain.)
They are not sitting in the class.
They aren’t sitting in the class.

Was not – wasn’t (वाज़न्ट)

वो घर पर नहीं था।
(Vo ghar par nahi tha.)
He was not at home.
He wasn’t at home.

Were not – weren’t (वन्ट)

हम ऐसी कोई प्लेनिंग नहीं कर रहे थे।
(Hum esi koi planning nahi kar rahe the.)
We were not planning as such.
We weren’t planning as such.

क्या आप नहीं सो रहे थे ?
(kya aap nahi so rahe the?)
Were you not sleeping?
Weren’t you sleeping?

Has not – hasn’t (हैज़न्ट)

उसने अभी तक मेरा मोबाइल मुझे वापस नहीं दिया है।
(Usne abhi tak mera mobile mujhe vapas nahi diya hai.)
He has not returned my mobile yet.
He hasn’t returned my mobile yet.

Have not – haven’t (हैवन्ट)

आपने वो मूवी नहीं देखी हैं।
(Apne vo movie nahi dekhi hai.)
You have not seen that movie.
You haven’t seen that movie.

Had not – hadn’t (हैडन्ट)

उसने मुझे इस बारे में नहीं बताया था।
(Usne mujhe is bare me nahi bataya tha.)
He had not told me about it.
He hadn’t told me about it.

Do not – don’t (डोन्ट)

मैं आपको नहीं जनता।
(Main apko nahi janta.)
I do not know you.
I don’t know you.

Does not – doesn’t (डज़न्ट)

वो मेरी बात नहीं मानता।
(Vo meri baat nahi manta.
He does not obey me.
He doesn’t obey me.

Did not – didn’t (डिडन्ट/डिन्ट)

अयांश ने आज पढ़ाई नहीं की।
(Ayansh ne aaj padhai nahi ki.)
Ayansh did not study today.
Ayansh didn’t study today.

Will not – won’t (वोन्ट)

पंकज आज नहीं आएगा।
(Pankaj aaj nahi aaega.)
Pankaj will not come today.
Pankaj won’t come today.

Would not – wouldn’t (वुडन्ट)

पिंकी इस वक़्त खेल नहीं रही होगी।
(Pinky is waqt khel nahi rahi hogi.)
Pinky would not be playing right now.
Pinky wouldn’t be playing right now.

Can not – cannot/can’t (कैनॉट/कान्ट)

मैं गिटार नहीं बजा सकता।
(Main guitar nahi baja sakta.)
I can not play guitar.
I cannot play guitar.
I can’t play guitar.

Could not – couldn’t (कुडन्ट)

वो आपको कॉल नहीं कर पाया।
(Vo apko call nahi kar paya.)
He could not call you.
He couldn’t call you.

Should not – shouldn’t (शुडन्ट)

हमें किसी का दिल नहीं दुखाना चाहिए।
(Hamein kisi ka dil nahi dukhana chahiye.)
We should not hurt anyone.
We shouldn’t hurt anyone.

Shall not – Shan’t (शॉन्ट)

क्या हम ना खेलें?
(Kya hum na khele?)
Shall we not play?
Shan’t we play?

आपको नियम नहीं तोडने चाहिए।
(Aapko niyam nahi todne chahiye.)
You shall not breach the rules.
You shan’t breach the rules.

May not – mayn’t (मेयन्ट)

उसे यहाँ नहीं देखा जा सकता।
(Use yahaan nahi dekha ja sakta.)
He may not be seen here.
He mayn’t be seen here.

Might not – Mightn’t (माइटन्ट)

शायद बस आज नहीं आ रही होगी।
(Shayad bus aaj nahi aa rahi hogi.)
The bus might not be coming today.
The bus mightn’t be coming today.

Must not – mustn’t (मसन्ट)

आपको घमंडी नहीं होना चाहिए।
(Aapko ghamandi nahi hona chahiye.)
You must not be arrogant.
You mustn’t be arrogant.

मैं पक्का दिल्ली नहीं जाऊँगा।
(Main pkka Delhi nahi jaunga.)
I must not go to Delhi.
I mustn’t go to Delhi.

Dare not – Daren’t (डेअन्ट)

वो आपसे लडने की हिम्मत नहीं कर सकता।
(Vo aapse ladne ki himmat nahi kar sakta.)
He dare not fight you.
He daren’t fight you.

Need not – needn’t (नीडन्ट)

आपको वहाँ जाने की जरूरत नहीं है।
(Aapko vahan jane ki zarurat nahi hai.)
You need not go there.
You needn’t go there.

Contraction Category -2
Pronoun + Verb

I have – I’ve (आयव)
यहाँ पर “I” एक Pronoun है और “have” एक Verb है।

मेरे पास एक पैन है।
(Mere pass ek pen hai.)
I have a pen.
I’ve a pen.

They have – They’ve (देव)

वो डॉक्टर से कनसल्ट कर चुके हैं।
(Vo Doctor se consult kar chuke hain.)
They have consulted a Doctor.
They’ve consulted a Doctor.

We have – We’ve (वीव)

हमने मूवी नहीं देखी है।
(Humne movie nahi dekhi hai.)
We have not seen the movie.
We’ve not seen the movie.
यहाँ पर अगर आप चाहें तो We have की जगह have not का भी Contraction यूज़ कर सकते है।
We haven’t seen the movie.

You have – You’ve (यूव)

आप बहुत जल्दी आ गये हैं।
(Aap bahut jaldi aa gye hain.)
You have come so early.
You’ve come so early.

He is/He has – He’s (हीज़)

वो मेरा दोस्त है।
(Vo mera dost hai.)
He is my friend.
He’s my friend.

वो ये कर चुका है।
(Vo ye kar chukka hai.)
He has done it.
He’s done it.

She is/She has – She’s (शीज़)

वो एक चालाक लडकी है।
(Vo ek chalaak ladki hai.)
She is a clever girl.
She’s a clever girl.

उसके दो भाई हैं।
(Uske do bhai hain.)
She has two brothers.
She’s two brothers.

It is/It has – It’s (इट्स)

बारिश हो रही है।
(Barish ho rahi hai.)
It is raining.
It’s raining.

दो दिन हो गये हैं।
(Do din ho gaye hain.)
It has been two days.
It’s been two days.

He will/shall – He’ll (हील)
She will/shall – She’ll (शील)
We will/shall – We’ll (वील)
You will/shall – You’ll (यूल)
They will/shall – They’ll (देल)
It will/shall – It’ll (इटिल)
That will/shall – That’ll (दैटिल)

वो मेरे लिये कुछ लायेगा।
(Vo mere liye kuch layega.)
He will bring something for me.
He’ll bring something for me.

आपको नियमों का पालन करना चाहिए।
(Aapko niyamo ka palan karna chahiye.)
You shall adhere to the rules.
You’ll adhere to the rules.

यह अच्छा होगा।
(Yah acha hoga.)
This will be great.
This’ll be great.
It will be great.

It’ll be great.

उससे मेरा काम चल जायेगा।
(Usse mera kam chal jayega.)
That will serve my purpose.
That’ll serve my purpose.

He would/had – He’d (हीड)
She would/had –
She’d (शीड)
We would/had – We’d (वीड)
They would/had –
They’d (देड)
You would/had –
You’d (यूड)
It would/had –
It’d (इटिड)

अगर मैं उसको कॉल करता, वो मुझसे मिलता।
(Agar main usko call karta, vo mujhse milta.)
If I called him, he would meet me.
If I called him, he’d meet me.

वो स्कूल के लिए निकल चुका था।
(Vo school ke lie nikal chukka tha.)
He had left for school.
He’d left for school.

हम उसे वहाँ मिलते।
(Hum use vahan milte.)
We would meet him there.
We’d meet him there.

वे आपसे पहले आये थे।
(Ve apse phele aaye the.)
They had come earlier than you.
They’d come earlier than you.

आपसे मिले हुए महीनों हो गये थे।
(Aapse mile hue mahino ho gaye the.)
It had been months having met you.
It’d been months having met you.

I am – I’m (आयम)

मैं बस से उतर रहा हूँ।
(Main bus se utar raha hun.)
I am getting off the bus.
I’m getting off the bus.

They are – They’re (देअर)

वे मेरे दोस्त हैं।
(Ve mere dost hain.)
They are my friends.
They’re my friends.

Contraction Category -3
Verb + Verb

Could have – Could’ve (कुडव)

उसके पास एक पैन हो सकता है।
(Uske pass ek pen ho sakta hai.)
He could have a pen.
He could’ve a pen.

आप मुझसे मिल सकते थे।
(Aap mujhse mil sakte the.)
You could have met me.
You could’ve met me.

Should have – Should’ve (शुडव)
हमारे पास अपना खुद का घर होना चाहिए | 
(Humare pass apna khud ka ghar hona chahiye.)

We should have our own house.
We should’ve our own house.

आपको मुझे कॉल करना चाहिए था।
(Apko mujhe call karna chahiye tha.)
You should have called me.
You should’ve called me.

हमारे पास अपना खुद का घर होना चाहिए था।
(Humare pass apna khud ka ghar hona chahiye tha.)
We should have had our own house.
We should’ve had our own house.

Would have – Would’ve (वुडव)

अगले ही मिनट वो निकल चुका होता।
(Agle hi minute vo nikal chuka hota.)
He would have left in another minute.
He would’ve left in another minute.
(यहाँ पर आप He+would+have तीनों को Contract कर सकते हैं।)

He’d’ve left in another minute.

Let me = Lemme
Let us = Let’s
Madam = Ma’am

  2. Sir aap Mahan ho. Me 52 years old ek farmer hun. Maine aapka video dekha or muze laga mai v English bolna sikh sakta hun. apni varshon ki sapne English bolne puri ho jaegi. Maine aapka grammar (verb) ka 2 ghanta wali class dekha or nishchai kiya English bolne ka or ab bharosha v ho gaya. Dhanyabad, thanks.
