Part – 1

Is, Am & Are (है, हूँ, हैं, हो)

  • 3rd person Singular Subjects के साथ (He, She & Any singular noun जैसे किसी एक व्यक्ति/वस्तु/स्थान का नाम): IS
  • 1st person Singular Subject (I) के साथ : AM
  • बाकी सभी Subjects के साथ (You, We, They or Any plural noun जैसे दो या दो से अधिक व्यक्ति/वस्तु/स्थान का नाम): ARE

Is/Am/Are का प्रयोग निम्नलिखित तीन cases में किया जाता है –

1) In Simple Sentences: (Subject की वस्था/स्थिति की जानकारी देने हेतु)

  • वह घर पर है।
    Wah ghar par hai.
    He is at home.

  • मैं स्कूल में हूँ।
    Main school mein hoon.
    I am in school.

  • तुम मेरे साथ हो।
    Tum mere sath ho.
    You are with me.

2) In Present Continuous Tense: (Subject किसी काम को कर रहा है)

  • वह खेल रही है।
    Wah Khel rahi hai.
    She is playing.

  • आप घर जा रहे हैं।
    Aap ghar ja rahe hain.
    You are going home. (going home = going to home)

3) In Present Indefinite Tense Passive Voice: (किसी काम को किया जाता है किसी के द्वारा)

  • उसे भेजा जाता है।
    Use bheja jata hai.
    He is sent.
                                                                  
  • उसे एक किताब दी जाती है।
    Use ek kitaab di jaati hai.
    She is given a book.

  • मुझे बताया जाता है।
    Mujhe bataya gaya hai.
    I am told.

  • आपको देखा जाता है।
    Apko dekha jata hai.
    You are seen.

  • हमें प्रताड़ित किया जाता है।
    Hame Partadit kiya jata hai.
    We are tortured.

  • उन्हें दोषी ठहराया जाता है।
    Unhen doshi thahraya jata hai.
    They are blamed.

Was & Were (था, थे, थी)

  • 3rd person Singular Subjects(He, She…) और 1st person Singular Subject (I) के साथ: WAS
  • बाकी सभी Subjects के साथ (You, We, They or Any plural noun जैसे दो या दो से अधिक व्यक्ति/वस्तु/स्थान का नाम): WERE

1) In Simple Sentences: (Subject की वस्था/स्थिति की जानकारी देने हेतु)

  • वो घर पर था।
    Wo ghar par tha.
    He was at home.

  • वह स्कूल में थी।
    Wah School mein thi.
    She was in school.

  • उस दिन राहुल मेरे साथ था।
    Us din rahul mere sath tha.
    Rahul was with me that day.

  • मैं वहाँ था।
    Main waha tha.
    I was there.

  • आप वहाँ नहीं थे।
    Tum waha nahi the.
    You were not there.

  • हम उन दिनों गोवा में थे।
    Ham un dino Goa mein the.
    We were in Goa those days.

2) In Past Continuous Tense – (Subject किसी काम को कर रहा था)

  • वह सो रहा था।
    Wah so raha tha.
    He was sleeping.

  • वह रो रही थी।
    Wah ro rahi thi.
    She was weeping.

  • मैं हँस रहा था।
    Main hans raha tha.
    I was laughing.

  • आप घर जा रहे थे।
    Aap ghar ja rahe the.
    You were going home.

  • हम आपके साथ खेल रहे थे।
    Ham apke sath khel rahe the.
    We were playing with you.

3) In Past Indefinite Tense Passive Voice – (किसी काम को किया गया किसी के द्वारा)

  • उसे बताया गया।
    Use bataya gaya tha.
    He was told.

  • उसे एक मोबाइल दिया गया।
    Use ek mobile diya gaya tha.
    She was given a mobile.

  • हमें डांटा गया।
    Hame danta gaya tha.
    We were scolded.

  • हमें हमारे शिक्षकों के द्वारा डांटा गया।
    Hamen hamare shikshakon ne danta tha.
    We were scolded by our teachers.

Has & Have (पास है/में है/भाई बहन हैं/चुका है)

  • 3rd person Singular Subjects (He, She…) के साथ: HAS
  • बाकी सभी Subjects के साथ (I, You, We, They or Any plural noun जैसे दो या दो से अधिक व्यक्ति/वस्तु/स्थान का नाम): HAVE

1) In Simple Sentences – पास है (To show Possession)

  • उसके पास एक पैन है।
    Uske pass ek kalam hai.
    He has a pen.

  • उसके पास किताबें हैं।
    Uske pass kitaben hai.
    She has books.

  • मेरे पास कुछ है।
    Mere pass kuch hai.
    I have something.

  • आपके पास पैसा है।
    Apke pass paisa hai.
    You have money.

  • हमारे पास बहुत सारी किताबें हैं।
    Hamare pass bahut sari kitaben hai.
    We have lots of books.

2) In Present Perfect Tense (चुका है/चुकी है/चुके हैं)

  • वह स्कूल गया (जा चुका) है।
    Wah school gaya hai.
    He has gone to school.

  • वह वहाँ रह चुकी है।
    Wah wahan rah chuki hai.
    She has lived there.

  • मैं उस लड़के के साथ खेल चुका हूँ। / मैंने उस लड़के के साथ खेला है।
    Maine us ladke ke sath khela hai.
    I have played with that boy.

  • तुम मेरी माँ से मिले (मिल चुके) हो।
    Tum meri maa se mile ho.
    You have met my mom.

3) में है / के अन्दर है (To contain within) –

  • उसके अन्दर कुछ करने की क्षमता है।
    Uske pass kuch karne ki kshamta hai.
    He has potential to do something.

  • मुझमें जोखिम उठाने का साहस है।
    Mujhe jokhim uthane ka sahas hai.
    I have courage to take risk.

  • आपके अन्दर एक बहादुर दिल है।
    Apke pass ek bahadur dil hai.
    You have a brave heart.

4) ये बताने में कि कितने भाई / बहन/ दोस्त आदि हैं (To mention the no. of brothers/sisters/friends etc.)

  • उसके दो भाई हैं।
    Uske do bhai hai.
    He has two brothers.

  • उसकी तीन बहनें हैं।
    Uski teen bahne hain.
    She has three sisters.

  • मेरे दो चाचा हैं।
    Mere do chacha hain.
    I have two uncles.

  • आपके दो दोस्त हैं।
    Apke do dost hain.
    You have two friends.

Had (पास था/में था/भाई बहन थे/चुका था)

  • सभी Subjects के साथ : HAD

1) In Simple Sentences – पास था (To show Possession) –

  • मेरे पास एक पेन था।
    Mere pass ek pen tha.
    I had a pen.

  • उसके पास किताबें थीं।
    Uske pass kitaben thi.
    She had books.

  • मेरे पास कुछ था।
    Mere pass kuch tha.
    I had something.

  • आपके पास पैसा था।
    Apke pass paisa tha.
    You had money.

  • हमारे पास बहुत सारी किताबें थीं।
    Hamare pass bahut sari kitaben thi.
    We had lots of books.

2) In Past Perfect Tense (चुका था/चुकी थी/चुके थे) –

  • वो खेलने गया (जा चुका) था।
    Wo khelne gaya (ja chuka) tha.
    He had gone to play.

  • वह वहाँ रह चुकी थी।
    Wah wahan rah chuki hai.
    She had lived there.

  • मैं उस लड़के के साथ खेल चुका था। / मैंने उस लड़के के साथ खेला था।
    Maine us ladke ke sath khela hai.
    I had played with that boy.

  • तुम मेरी माँ से मिले (मिल चुके) थे।
    Tum meri maa se mil chuke the.
    You had met my mom.

3) में था / के अन्दर था (To contain within) –

  • उनमें जीतने की तीव्र इच्छा थी।
    Unme Jitene ki tivra ichha thi.
    They had a strong desire to win.

  • उसमें कुछ करने की क्षमता थी।
    Unme kuch karne ki kshamta thi.
    He had potential to do something.

4) ये बताने में कि कितने भाई / बहन/ दोस्त आदि थे (To mention the no. of brothers/sisters/friends etc.) –

  • उसके दो भाई थे।
    Uske do bhai the.
    He had two brothers.

  • हमारी चार बहनें थीं।
    Ham char bahnen thi.
    We had four sisters.

Does, Do

  • 3rd person Singular Subjects (He, She…) के साथ: DOES
  • बाकी सभी Subjects के साथ (I, You, We, They or Any plural noun जैसे दो या दो से अधिक व्यक्ति/वस्तु/स्थान का नाम): DO

In Present Indefinite Negative Sentences – (Subject किसी काम को नहीं करता है)

  • वह स्कूल नहीं जाता है।
    Wah school nahi jata hai.
    He does not go to school.

  • वह मेरे साथ नहीं बैठती।
    Wah mere sath nahi baithti.
    She does not sit with me.

  • मैं उसके साथ नहीं खेलता।
    Main uske sath nahi khelta.
    I do not play with him.

  • आप मुझे नहीं जानते हो।
    Aap mujhe nahi jante.
    You do not know me.

  • हम आपसे नहीं मिलते।
    Ham apse nahi milte.
    We do not meet you.

In Present Indefinite Positive Sentences – (To emphasize = जोर देने के लिए)

  • वो जाता है। (Wo jaata hai.)
    He goes.
    He does go. (जोर देते हुए – Emphasized)

  • मैं जाता हूँ। (Main jaata hu.)
    I go.
    I do go. (जोर देते हुए = Emphasized)

  • हम राहुल से रोज मिलते हैं। (Hum Rahul se roz milte hain.)
    We meet Rahul every day.
    We do meet Rahul every day. (जोर देते हुए = Emphasized)

Did

  • सभी Subjects के साथ: DID

In Past Indefinite Negative Sentences – (Subject ने किसी काम को नहीं किया)

  • वह मेरे घर नहीं आया।
    Wah mere ghar nahi aya.
    He did not come to my home.

  • वह मेरे साथ नहीं बैठी।
    Wah mere sath nahi baithi.
    She did not sit with me.

  • राहुल आपसे नहीं मिला।
    Rahul apse nahi mila.
    Rahul did not meet you.

  • मैंने आपको फोन नहीं किया।
    Maine apko phone nahi kiya.
    I did not call you.

  • आप वहाँ नहीं गए।
    Ap waha nahi gaye.
    You did not go there.

In Past Indefinite Positive Sentences – (To emphasize = जोर देने के लिए)

  • वह वहाँ गया। (Wo wahaan gaya.)
  • He went there.
  • He did go there. (जोर देते हुए = Emphasized)

  • राहुल रश्मि से मिला। (Rahul Rashmi se mila.)
  • Rahul met Rashmi.
  • Rahul did meet Rashmi. (जोर देते हुए = Emphasized)

Will

सभी Subjects के साथ: WILL

  • वह खेलेगा।
    Wah khelenge.
    He will play.

  • मैं जाऊँगा।
    Main jaunga.
    I will go.

  • हम आपसे मिलेंगे।
    Ham apse milenge.
    We will meet you.

  • वे हमारे घर आएंगे।
    We mere ghar ayenge.
    They will come to our home.

Shall

Shall का प्रयोग अब Tense के वाक्यों में नहीं किया जाता, बल्कि सिर्फ एक Modal Verb की तरह होता है।
Shall is no longer used in Tense structures; only used as a modal verb now.

चाहिए {Chahiye} = (Should) : 

  • क्या मुझे वहाँ जाना चाहिए?
    Kya mujhe wahaan jana chahiye?
    Shall I go there?

  • क्या मुझे खेलना चाहिए?
    Kya mujhe khelna chahiye?
    Shall I play?

  • क्या उसे आपसे मिलना चाहिए?
    Kya use aapse milna chahiye?
    Shall he meet you?

  • क्या हमें आपको बताना चाहिए?
    Kya hamein aapko batana chahiye?
    Shall we tell you?

“ऊँ” Formation (“Oon” Formation) : 

इस तरह के वाक्यों में आप Shall की जगह पर Do का प्रयोग भी कर सकते हैं।
You can also use “do” instead of “shall” in these sentences.

  • क्या मैं जाऊँ?
    Kya main jaaun?
    Shall I go? / Do I go?

  • क्या मैं आपसे मिलूँ?
    Kya main jaaun?
    Shall I meet you? / Do I meet you?

  • क्या मैं आपके साथ बैठूँ?
    Kya main aapke sath baithu?
    Shall I sit with you? / Do I sit with you?

  • क्या मैं उससे बात करूँ?
    Kya main usse baat karun?
    Shall I talk to him? / Do I talk to him?

Will be

In Simple Sentence – होगा (Hoga) 

  • वह घर पर होगा।
    Wah ghar par hoga.
    He will be at home.

  • वह रवीना के साथ होगा।
    Wah raveena ke sath rahega.
    She will be with Raveena.

  • मैं घर पर होऊँगा।
    Main ghar par rahunga.
    I will be at home.

  • राहुल और अमन आदित्य के साथ होंगे।
    Rahul aur Aman Aditya ke sath honge.
    Rahul and Aman will be with Aditya.

In Future Continuous Tense (रहा होगा {Raha hoga}): 

  • वह शाम को खेल रहा होगा।
    Wah shaam ko khel raha hoga.
    He will be playing in the evening.

  • मैं कल सुबह अमेरिका जा रहा होऊँगा।
    Main kal subah America jaa raha hounga.
    I will be going to America tomorrow morning.

Will have

In Simple Sentence – पास होगा (Paas Hoga) 

  • मेरे पास अगले साल एक कार होगी।
    Mere pass agle saal ek car hogi.
    I will have a car next year.

  • इस साल दिसम्बर तक आपका अपना घर होगा।
    Is saal december tak apka apna ghar hoga.
    You will have your own house by December this year.

In Future Perfect Tense (चुका होगा {Chuka hoga}): 

  • उसे अगले साल नौकरी मिल चुकी होगी।
    Use agle saal naukri mil chuki hogi.
    He will have got a job next year.

  • आप 2022 तक भारत के पीएम बन चुके होंगे।
    Ap 2022 tak Bharat ke PM ban chuke honge.
    You will have become the PM of India by 2022.

Should (चाहिए), Must (जरूर चाहिए)

Should – चाहिए {Chahiye}:

  • उसे जाना चाहिए।
    Use jana chahiye.
    He should go.

  • मुझे खेलना चाहिए।
    Mujhe khelna chahiye.
    I should play.

  • हमें लड़ाई नहीं करनी चाहिए।
    Hamen ladai nahi karrni chahiye.
    We should not fight.

Must – जरूर चाहिए {Zaroor Chahiye}:

  • उसे अवश्य जाना चाहिए।
    Use avashya jana chahiye.
    He must go.

  • उसे अस्पताल जरूर जाना चाहिए।
    Use aspatal zaroor jana chahiye.
    He must go to hospital.

  • हमें अपने राष्ट्र को सशक्त बनाना ही चाहिए।
    Hamen apne rashtra ko sashakt banana hi chahiye.
    We must empower our nation.

  • हमें गरीबों की मदद जरूर करनी चाहिए।
    Hamen garibon ki madad zaroor karni chahiye.
    We must help the poor.

  • उन्हें वहाँ जरूर जाना चाहिए ।
    Unhe waha zaroor jana chahiye.
    They must go there.

Should be (होना चाहिए)

  • वह घर पर होना चाहिए।
    Wah ghar par hona chahiye.
    He should be at home.

  • मुझे आपके साथ होना चाहिए।
    Mujhe tumhare sath rahna chahiye.
    I should be with you.

  • आपको रवि के साथ होना चाहिए।
    Aapko ravi ke sath hona chahiye.
    You should be with Ravi.

  • हमें अगले साल अमेरिका में होना चाहिए।
    Hamein agle saal America me hona chahiye.
    We should be in America next year.

  • राहुल और अमन अभी स्कूल में होने चाहिए।
    Rahul aur Aman abhi School me hone chahiye.
    Rahul and Aman should be in school right now.

Should have (पास होना चाहिए)

पास होना चाहिए {Paas hona Chahiye}:

  • उसके पास मोबाइल होना चाहिए।
    Uske paas Mobile hona chahiye.
    He should have a mobile.

  • उसके पास किताबें होनी चाहिए।
    Uske paas Kitabein honi chahiye.
    She should have books.

  • राहुल के पास पैसा होना चाहिए।
    Rahul ke paas paisa hona chahiye.
    Rahul should have money.

  • मेरे पास कम से कम कुछ होना चाहिए।
    Mere paas kam se kam kuch hona chahiye.
    I should have at least something.

  • हमारे पास कम से कम 5000 रूपए होने चाहिए।
    Hamaare paas kam se kam 5000 rupay hone chahiye.
    We should have at least ₹5000.

चाहिए था {Chahiye tha}:

  • मुझे चले जाना चाहिए था।
    Mujhe chale jana chahiye tha.
    I should have gone.

  • उसे आना चाहिए था।
    Use Aana Chahiye tha.
    He should have come.

  • उसे नाचना चाहिए था।
    Use naachna chahiye tha.
    She should have danced.

  • हमें अपने राष्ट्र के लिए लड़ना चाहिए था।
    Hame apne rashtra ke liye ladna chahiye.
    We should have fought for our nation.

  • राहुल और अमन को मेरे घर आना चाहिए था।
    Rahul or Aman ko mere ghar aana chahiye tha.
    Rahul and Aman should have come my home.

Part – 2:

Is/Am/Are + to
किसी काम को करना है (Kisi kaam ko karna hai)

  • 3rd person Singular Subjects के साथ (He, She & Any singular noun जैसे किसी एक व्यक्ति/वस्तु/स्थान का नाम): IS TO
  • 1st person Singular Subject (I) के साथ : AM TO
  • बाकी सभी Subjects के साथ (You, We, They or Any plural noun जैसे दो या दो से अधिक व्यक्ति/वस्तु/स्थान का नाम): ARE TO

  • मुझे स्कूल जाना है।
    Mujhe school jaana hai.
    I am to go to school.

  • राहुल को आज मेरे घर आना है।
    Rahul ko aaj mere ghar aana hai.
    Rahul is to come to my home today.

  • हमें आपसे मिलना है।
    Hamen aapase milana hai.
    We are to meet you.

We can also use “is supposed to”, “am supposed to” and “are supposed to” to convey the same message.
हम “is/am/are + to” की बजाय “is/am/are + supposed + to” का भी प्रयोग कर सकते हैं। इससे भाव में परिवर्तन नहीं होता। 

  • मुझे आपसे मिलना है।
    Mujhe aapase milana hai.
    I am to meet you. /
    I am supposed to meet you.

  • आपको मेरे घर आना है।
    Aapko mere ghar aana hai.
    You are to come to my home. /
    You are supposed to come to my home.

  • मुझे स्कूल नहीं जाना है।
    Mujhe school nahi jaana hai.
    I am not to go to School. /
    I am not supposed to go to School.

  •  क्या मुझे स्कूल जाना है?
    Kya Mujhe school jaana hai?
    Am I to go to School? /
    Am I supposed to go to School?

Has/Have + to

1) किसी काम को करना है {जरूरी} / Kisi kaam ko karna hai {Zaroori}
2) किसी काम को करना पडता है / Kisi kaam ko karna padta hai

Subject को कोई काम जरूर करना है या फिर Subject को कोई काम करना पडता है।

  • 3rd person Singular Subjects के साथ (He, She & Any singular noun जैसे किसी एक व्यक्ति/वस्तु/स्थान का नाम): HAS TO
  • बाकी सभी Subjects के साथ (I, You, We, They or Any plural noun जैसे दो या दो से अधिक व्यक्ति/वस्तु/स्थान का नाम): HAVE TO

मुझे स्कूल जाना है। {जरूरी}
Mujhe school jaana hai. {zaroor} /
I have to go to School.

मुझे स्कूल जाना पड़ता है।
Mujhe school jana padta hai.
I have to go to School.

NOTE: ऊपर दिये दोनों वाक्यों को बनाने का तरीका बिल्कुल एक समान होता है।

मुझे उसे रोज कॉल करना है। {जरूरी}
Mujhe use roj call karna hai. {zaroor}
या (or)
मुझे उसे रोज कॉल करना पड़ता है।
Mujhe use roj call karna padata hai.
He has to call me every day.

मुझे उसे रोज बुलाना पड़ता है।
Mujhe use roj bulaana padata hai.
I have to call him every day.

उसे रोज स्कूल जाना पड़ता है।
Use roj skool jaana padata hai.
She has to go to School every day.

We can also use “has got to” or  “have got to” to convey the same message.
हम “has/have + to” की बजाय “has/have + got + to” का भी प्रयोग कर सकते हैं। इससे अर्थ में परिवर्तन नहीं होता। 

मुझे वहाँ जाना पड़ता है।
Mujhe vahaan jaana padata hai.
I have to go there. / I have got to go there.

राहुल को बाजार जाना है।
Rahul ko baajaar jaana hai.
Rahul has (has got) to go to market.

Was/Were + to
किसी काम को करना था (Kisi kaam ko karna tha)

  • 3rd person Singular Subjects (He, She & Any singular noun जैसे किसी एक व्यक्ति/वस्तु/स्थान का नाम) और 1st person Singular Subject (I) के साथ : WAS TO
  • बाकी सभी Subjects के साथ (You, We, They or Any plural noun जैसे दो या दो से अधिक व्यक्ति/वस्तु/स्थान का नाम): WERE TO

  • मुझे स्कूल जाना था।
    Mujhe school jaana tha.
    I was to go to school.

  • राहुल को आज मेरे घर आना था।
    Rahul ko aaj mere ghar aana tha.
    Rahul was to come to my home today.

  • हमें आपसे मिलना था।
    Hamen aapase milana tha.
    We were to meet you.

We can also use “was/were supposed to” in place of “was/were + to”  to convey the same message.
हम “was/were + to” की बजाय “was/were + supposed + to” का भी प्रयोग कर सकते हैं। इससे भाव में परिवर्तन नहीं होता। 

  • मुझे आपसे मिलना था।
    Mujhe aapase milana tha.
    I was to meet you. / I was supposed to meet you.

  • आपको मेरे घर आना था।
    Aapko mere ghar aana tha.
    You were to come to my home. / You were supposed to come to my home.

  • मुझे फल नहीं खरीदने थे।
    Mujhe fruits nahi kharidne the..
    I was not to purchase the fruits. /
    I was not supposed to purchase the fruits.

  •  क्या मुझे स्कूल जाना था?
    Kya Mujhe school jaana tha?
    Was I to go to School? /
    Was I supposed to go to School?

Had + to

1) किसी काम को करना था {जरूरी} / Kisi kaam ko karna tha {Zaroori}
2) किसी काम को करना पडता था / Kisi kaam ko karna padta tha
3) किसी काम को करना पडा / Kisi kaam ko karna pada

Subject को कोई काम जरूर करना था {जरूरी} या फिर Subject को कोई काम करना पडता था या फिर Subject को कोई काम करना पडा, इन तीनों ही सूरतों में HAD TO या HAD GOT TO ही प्रयोग करना होगा ।

  • सभी Subjects के साथ : HAD TO

मुझे स्कूल जाना था। {जरूरी}
Mujhe school jaana tha. {zaroor}
I had to go to School.

मुझे स्कूल जाना पड़ता था।
Mujhe school jana padta tha.
I had to go to School.

मुझे स्कूल जाना पडा।
Mujhe school jana pada.
I had to go to School.

NOTE: ऊपर दिये तीनों वाक्यों को बनाने का तरीका बिल्कुल एक समान होता है।

मुझे उसे रोज कॉल करना था। {जरूरी}
Mujhe use roj call karna tha. {zaroori}
I had to call him every day.

1) पास हो सकता है {Paas ho sakta hai}

मेरे पास अगले साल कार हो सकती है।

jald hee aapake paas ek achchhee naukaree ho sakatee hai.

1) किया जा सका {Kiya ja saka}

इस मुद्दे को हल किया जा सका।

उन्हें बचाया नहीं जा सका।

2) किया जा सकता था {Kiya ja sakta tha}

इस सवाल को हल किया जा सकता था।
is savaal ko hal kiya ja sakata tha.
This question could be solved.

हमें किताबें दी जा सकती थीं।
hamen kitaaben dee ja sakatee theen.
We could be given the books.

उन्हें पूछा जा सकता था।
unhen poochha ja sakata tha.
They could be asked for.

3) हो सकता है/था {Ho sakta hai/tha}

वह कहीं भी हो सकता है/था।
vah kaheen bhee ho sakata hai/tha.
He could be anywhere at all.

वो मोबाईल टूटा हुआ हो सकता है/था।
Vo mobile toota hua ho sakta tha.
That mobile could be broken.

Could have

1) सकता था {Sakta tha} – Hypothetical Case {Not possible to happen anymore}

It looks similar to one of the usage of COULD; but there’s a difference: COULD is used to express one’s ability, whereas COULD HAVE is used to talk about the things that didn’t really happen in the past.

जब मैं जवान था तो मैं एक दिन में 5 किलोमीटर दौड़ सकता था।
jab main jawan tha to main ek din mein 5 kilomeetar daud sakata tha.

Ravi could have joined MBA, but he just missed this opportunity. {HYPOTHETICAL CASE}

मैं स्नातक में अंग्रेजी ले सकता था।
main snaatak mein angrejee le sakata tha.

Would

1) Subject किसी काम को (किया) करता था {Subject kisi kaam ko (kiya) karta tha}

वह वहां जाता था।
Vah vahaan jaata tha.
He would go there.

वे साथ बैठकर चर्चा करते थे।
ve saath baithakar charcha karate the.
They would sit together and discuss.

मैं सुबह 6 बजे उठता था। फिर, मैं सुबह की सैर के लिए जाता था। मैं 7 तक वापस आ जाता था।
main subah 6 baje uthata tha. phir, main subah kee sair ke lie jaata tha. main 7 tak vaapas aa jaata tha.

2) Subject किसी काम को करता {Subject kisi kaam ko karta}

अगर मैं घर आता, तो आपको फोन करता।
agar main ghar aata, to aapako phon karata.
If I came home, I would call you.

अगर आप मुझे मौका देते तो मैं आपके साथ काम जरूर करता।
agar aap mujhe mauka dete to main aapake saath kaam zaroor karta.
I would definitely work with you if you gave me a chance.

यदि मैं आप होता तो मैं यह निर्णय नहीं लेता।
Yadi main aap hota to main yah nirnay nahin leta.
If I were you, I wouldn’t take this decision.

3) Past of WILL

अगर कोई बात बीते कल में कही गयी हो भविष्य के बारे में, तो WILL बदल जाता है WOULD में।
agar koee baat beete kal mein kahee gayee ho bhavishy ke baare mein, to will badal jaata hai would mein.
If something is said in the past about the future, then WILL changes to WOULD.

मुझे पता था कि वो नहीं आएगा।
mujhe pata tha ki vo nahin aaega.
I knew that he will not come. – Incorrect

I would be in America today, but I left the job and came back to my country.

आज आप मेरे सबसे अच्छे दोस्त होते, लेकिन आपने मुझे धोखा दिया।
aaj aap mere sabase achchhe dost hote, lekin aapane mujhe dhokha diya.

वह आज एक महान राजनीतिज्ञ होती।

2) Subject कोई काम कर रहा होता {Subject koi kaam kar raha Hota}

मैं कंपनी के उत्पादों को बेचने के लिए लोगों को कॉल कर रहा होता।

3) Subject कोई काम Present में कर रहा होगा {Subject koi kaam present me kar raha hoga}

धोनी अगला मैच खेल रहा होगा।
Dhoni agala match khel raha hoga.
Dhoni will be playing the next match. {In future}

धोनी अभी खेल रहा होगा।
Dhoni abhee khel raha hoga.
Dhoni would be playing right now. {At present}

वह आपको कल बेवकूफ बना रही होगी।

Could/ May/ Might have had

1) पास हो सकता था (Paas ho sakta tha) – Possibility

उसके पास उनका सपोर्ट भी हो सकता है लेकिन उसने कभी उनके साथ अपने रिश्तों को नहीं बनाये रखा।
usake paas unaka support bhee ho sakata hai lekin usane kabhee unake saath apane rishton ko nahin banaaye rakha.
He may/might/could have had their support too but he never really maintained relations.

यदि उसने अपना निर्णय विवेकपूर्ण ढंग से लिया होता; मुझे यकीन है, आज उनके भारी जन समर्थन हो सकता था।
yadi usane apana nirnay vivekapoorn dhang se liya hota; mujhe yakin hai, aaj unke pass bhaari jan samarthan ho sakta tha.
If he had taken his decision judiciously; I’m sure, he could/may/might have had huge public support today.

हमारे पास आज हमारी अपनी मर्सिडीज हो सकती थी लेकिन हम में से किसी ने भी कभी कमाने पर ध्यान केंद्रित नहीं किया।
hamare paas aaj hamari apni Mercedes ho sakati thi lekin ham me se kisee ne bhi kbhi kamaane pr dhyan kendrit nahi kiya.
We may/might/could have had our own Mercedes today but none of us really focussed at earning.

2) खा / पी सकता था (Kha / Pee sakta tha)

वो पहले खाना खा सकता था।
Wo pahle khana kha sakta tha.
He may/might/could have had the food first.

आप चाय पी सकते थे।
Aap chai pee sakte the.
You may/might/could have had the tea.

घर से निकलने से पहले वो एक कप कॉफी पी सकती थी।
ghar se nikalane se pahale vo ek kap coffee pee sakatee thee.
She could/may/might have had a cup of coffee before leaving home.

Would have had

1) पास होता (Paas hota)

मेरे पास आज बाइक होती।
mere paas aaj bike hotee.
I would have had a bike today.

आज उसके पास बहुत पैसा होता।
aaj usake paas bahut paisa hota.
She would have had lots of money today.

यदि आपने अंग्रेजी सीखने के लिए खुद को समर्पित किया होता, तो आज आपके पास एक अच्छी नौकरी होती।
yadi aapane English seekhane ke lie khud ko samarpit kiya hota, to aaj aapake paas ek achchhee naukaree hotee.
If you had devoted yourself to learn English, you would have had a good job today.

अगर मैंने उनकी सलाह मान ली होती तो मुझे उस पार्टी का समर्थन प्राप्त होता।
agar mainne unakee salaah maan lee hotee to mujhe us paartee ka samarthan praapt hota.
I would have had that party’s support if I had followed their advice.

यदि धोनी ने टीम को प्रेरित नहीं किया होता तो आपके हाथ में यह पुरस्कार नहीं होता।
yadi dhonee ne teem ko prerit nahin kiya hota to aapake haath mein yah puraskaar nahin hota.

Has been / Have been

  • 3rd person Singular Subjects (He, She…) के साथ: HAS BEEN

आपको अभी स्कूल में होना चाहिए था।
aapako abhee skool mein hona chaahie tha.
You should have been in school right now.

2) किया जाना चाहिए था (Kiya jana chahie tha) – Passive voice of “Should have”

यह किया जाना चाहिए था।
yah kiya jaana chaahie tha.
It should have been done.

इस मोबाइल को रिपेयरिंग के लिए भेज दिया जाना चाहिए था।
is mobail ko ripeyaring ke lie bhej diya jaana chaahie tha.
This mobile should been sent for repairing.

हमें घर वापस भेज दिया जाना चाहिए था।
hamen ghar vaapas bhej diya jaana chaahie tha.
We should have been sent back home.

Must have been

1) जरूर होना चाहिए था (Zaroor hona chahie tha)

आपको ऐसे दुखद क्षण में अपने भाई के साथ जरूर होना चाहिए था।
aapko aise dukhad kshan mein apane bhaee ke saath zaroor hona chahie tha.
You must have been with your brother in such a tragic moment.

उसे घर पर जरूर होना चाहिए था।
use ghar par zaroor hona chaahie tha.
He must have been at home.

हमें अभी जिम में जरूर होना चाहिए था।
hamen abhee gym mein zaroor hona chaahie tha.
We must have been in the gym right now.

आपको इस वक्त स्कूल में जरूर होना चाहिए था।

2) जरूर किया जाना चाहिए था (Zaroor kiya jana chahie tha) – Passive Voice of “must have”

यह 1 बजे से पहले जरूर कर दिया जाना चाहिए था।
yah 1 baje se pahale jaroor kar diya jaana chaahie tha.
It must have been done before 1 PM.

उसके परिवार को पुलिस सुरक्षा जरूर दी जानी चाहिए थी।
usake parivaar ko pulis suraksha jaroor dee jaanee chaahie thee.
His family must have been given police protection.

Could/May/Might have been

1) हो सकता था (Ho sakta tha) – Possibility

वह आज मेरा एक अच्छा दोस्त हो सकता था लेकिन उसने हमेशा मुझे अपनी खातिर इस्तेमाल किया।
vah aaj mera ek achchha dost ho sakata tha lekin usane hamesha mujhe apanee khaatir istemaal kiya.
He could/may/might have been a good friend of mine today but he always used me for his sake.

अगर कोहली ने शतक नहीं लगाया होता तो आप दबाव में हो (आ) सकते थे।
agar kohalee ne shatak nahin lagaaya hota to aap dabaav mein ho(aa) sakate the.
You could/may/might have been under pressure if Kohli hadn’t hit the century.

वो आपके घर पर हो सकता था।
Wo aapke ghar par ho sakta tha.
He could/may/might have been at your home.

2) किया जा सकता था (Kiya ja sakta tha) – Passive voice of “Could/May/Might have”

उसे बाजार भेजा जा सकता था।
use baajaar bheja ja sakata tha.
He could/may/might have been sent to market.

हमसे ये सभी सवाल पूछे जा सकते थे।
hamase ye sabhee savaal poochhe ja sakate the.
We could/may/might have been asked all these questions.

उन्हें कहीं भी देखा जा सकता था।
unhen kaheen bhee dekha ja sakata tha.
They could/may/might have been seen anywhere.

Would have been

1) होता / हो चुका होता / बन चुका होता (Hota / Ho chuka hota / Ban chuka hota)

अगर आपने उसे पहले से सूचना दे दी होती, तो वह घर पर होता।
agar aapane use pahale se soochana de dee hotee, to vah ghar par hota.
If you had informed him beforehand, he would have been at home.

अगर आप कल ही मेरे पैसे वापस कर देते तो मैं और अधिक संतुष्ट होता।
agar aap kal hee mere paise vaapas kar dete to main aur adhik santusht hota.
I would have been more satisfied if you had returned my money yesterday itself.

अगर मैंने स्कूल में अच्छी पढ़ाई की होती, तो मैं आज इंजीनियर, शिक्षक या डॉक्टर होता।
agar mainne school mein achchhee padhaee kee hotee, to main aaj injeeniyar, shikshak ya doktar hota.
If I had studied well in school, I would have been an engineer, a teacher or a doctor today.

2) किया जा चुका होता (Kiya ja chuka hota) – Passive voice of “Would have”

वे अब तक पकड़े जा चुके होते।
ve ab tak pakade ja chuke hote.
They would have been caught by now.

दोषियों को अब तक सलाखों के पीछे भेज दिया गया होता।
doshiyon ko ab tak salaakhon ke peechhe bhej diya gaya hota.
The culprits would have been sent behind the bars by now.

यदि हमने अनुरोध किया होता, तो हमें सभी महत्वपूर्ण दस्तावेज उपलब्ध कराए जा चुके होते।
yadi hamane anurodh kiya hota, to hamen sabhee mahatvapoorn dastaavej upalabdh karae jaa chuke hote.
If we had requested, we would have been provided all the important documents.
