English Speaking Course Day 21 – आज हम कुछ नयी चीजों के बारें में सीखेंगे और साथ ही कुछ चीजों का हम revision भी करेंगे।

Can you spot the Spelling Errors in the following:

1^st  – First (फर्स्ट) – पहला
2^nd – Second (सेकंड ) – दूसरा
3^rd – Third (थर्ड) – तीसरा
4^th – Forth (फोर्थ) – चौथा
5^th – Fifth (फिफ्थ) – पाँचवाँ
6^th – Sixth (सिक्स्थ) – छ्ठा
7^th – Seventh (सैवन्थ) – सातवाँ
8^th – Eighth (एट्थ) – आठवाँ
9^th – Nineth (नाइन्थ) – नवाँ
10^th – Tenth (टैंथ) – दसवाँ
11^th – Eleventh (इलैवन्थ) – ग्यारहवाँ
12^th – Twelth (ट्वैल्थ) – बारहवाँ

Correct spellings of the following are:
4^th – Fourth (Forth नहीं बल्कि Fourth)
9^th – Ninth (Nineth नहीं बल्कि Ninth)
12^th – Twelfth (Twelveth या Twelth नहीं बल्कि Twelfth)

साल के बारह महीने (Twelve Month of a year):

January – जैन्युरी
February – फैबररी
March – मार्च
April – एप्रिल
May- मे
June – जून
July- जुलाय
August – ऑगस्ट
September – सैप्टैम्बर
October – ऑक्टोबर
November – नवैम्बर
December – डिसैम्बर

Seven Days In A Week

एक हफ्ते में सात दिन होते है। (Ek hafte me saat din hote hain.)
A week has seven days. / There are seven days in a week.

सोमवार – Monday – मंडे
मंगलवार – Tuesday – ट्यूज़डे
बुधवार – Wednesday – वेन्ज़डे / वैडनैसडे
बृहस्पतिवार – Thursday – थर्सडे / थर्ज़डे
शुक्रवार – Friday – फ्राइडे
शनिवार – Saturday – सैटरडे
रविवार – Sunday – संडे

‘S (Apostrophe S)
To express possession (अधिकार या कब्जा बताने हेतु)

नेहा की बहन
(Neha ki bahan)
Neha’s sister

उसकी बहन
(Uski bahan)
His sister / Her sister

उस लड़के का पैन
(Us ladke ka pen)
That boy’s pen

उन लड़कों के पैन
(Un ladkon ke pen)
Those boys’ pens

उस लड़की का भाई
(Us ladki ka bhai)
That girl’s brother

उन लड़कियों के भाई
(Un ladkiyon ke bhai)
Those girls’ brothers

मेरे मोबाईल का कवर
(Mere mobile ka cover)
My mobile’s cover / The cover of my mobile

इस घर का नक्शा
(Is ghar ka naksha)
This house’s map / The map of this house

इन घरों के नक्शे
(In gharon ke nakshe)
These houses’ maps / The maps of these houses

Note – जब भी Plural आता है, जिसके एंड में s होता है उसके बाद ‘s नहीं लगाते है केवल ‘(Apostrophe) लगाते हैं। जैसे – उन लड़कियों के भाई (Un ladkiyon ke bhai) – Those girls’ brothers. अक्सर students गलती करते हैं और लिख देते हैं – Those girl’s brothers या फिर Those girls’s brother. ये गलत है। सही तरीका है – Those girls’ brothers.

Look at the following sentences:

• This is a boy’s hostel. (Incorrect)
• This is a boys’ hostel. (Correct)
• This is a lady’s toilet. (Incorrect)
• This is a ladies’ toilet. (Correct)

Auxiliary verbs

Please note:
3S means “3rd person singular subject”
R means “Rest all subject types”
S means “Singular”
P means “Plural”
All means “All the subject types”

इसका मतलब ये हुआ कि

Is का प्रयोग होता है –  3^rd Person singular के साथ (He, She, This, That, It, Singular Noun, Singular Pronoun)
Am का प्रयोग होता है –  1st Person singular के साथ (I)
Are का प्रयोग होता है –  सभी Plural के साथ (We, You, They, These, Those, Plural Noun, Plural Pronoun)

Was का प्रयोग होता है – सभी Singular के साथ (I, He, She, This, That, It, Singular Noun, Singular Pronoun)
Were का प्रयोग होता है –  सभी Plural के साथ (We, You, They, These, Those, Plural Noun, Plural Pronoun)

Does का प्रयोग होता है –  3^rd Person singular के साथ (He, She, This, That, It, Singular Noun, Singular Pronoun)
Do का प्रयोग होता है –  3^rd Person singular के अलावा सभी के साथ (I, We, You, They, These, Those, Plural Noun, Plural Pronoun)

Has का प्रयोग होता है –  3^rd Person singular के साथ (He, She, This, That, It, Singular Noun, Singular Pronoun)
Have का प्रयोग होता है –  3^rd Person singular के अलावा सभी के साथ (I, We, You, They, These, Those, Plural Noun, Plural Pronoun)

Did का प्रयोग होता है –  Plural के साथ (We, You, They, These, Those, Plural Noun, Plural Pronoun)
Had का प्रयोग होता है –  Plural के साथ (We, You, They, These, Those, Plural Noun, Plural Pronoun)
Will be का प्रयोग होता है –  Plural के साथ (We, You, They, These, Those, Plural Noun, Plural Pronoun)

Spot the Auxiliary and the Main verbs in a sentence

वो अच्छा लड़का है।
(Vo achchha ladka hai.)
He is a good boy.
Auxiliary verb – is
Main verb – is

मैं कुछ खेल रहा हूँ।
(Main kuchh khel raha hoon.)
I am playing something.
Auxiliary verb – am
Main verb – play

हम दोनों खेल सकते हैं।
(Hum dono khel sakta hai.)
We both can play.
Modal Auxiliary verb – can
Main verb – play

ये पैन बिका हुआ है। (Simple Sentence)
(Ye pen bika hua hai.)

ये पैन बेचा गया है। (Tense Category Sentence)
(Ye pen becha gaya hai.)

मैंने ये पैन बेचा है। (Passive voice Sentence)
(Mene ye pen becha hai.)

Translate the following sentences into English –
उस ग्लास में पानी नहीं था।
(Us glass me paani nahi tha.)

a) That glass did not have water.
b) That glass had no water.
c) There was no water in that glass.
d) All of the above
Ans – हम इस Sentence को (a), (b) और (c) तीनों तरीकों से बना सकते हैं। इसलिए option (d) बिल्कुल सही है।

Translate the following sentence into English –
उस बॉक्स में दो पैन नहीं थे।
(Us box me do pen nahi the.)

a) That box did not have two pens.
b) That box had no two pens.
c) That box had not two pens.
d) All of the above
Ans – Option (a) बिल्कुल सही है।
