English Writing Practice # 1 

As the value of Gold can’t be judged/assessed by how much that glitters but how pure that is; similarly, a well-dressed person is not necessarily a gentleman. Looks (appearance) are often deceptive.  Initially, you may be impressed by a person but later on, his deeds and behaviour may repel you.  On the other hand (on the contrary), we sometimes mistake someone for a wicked person; though he is not. So, it’s better to take time before making an opinion on someone.

जिस तरह से सोने की कीमत का आंकलन इस बात से नहीं किया जा सकता कि वो कितना चमकता है, बल्कि इस बात से कि वो कितना शुद्ध है; उसी तरह, एक अच्छे कपड़े पहना हुआ व्यक्ति जरुरी नहीं है कि सभ्य हो। बाहरी सुन्दरता अक्सर धोखा देती है। शुरुआत में आप किसी व्यक्ति से प्रभावित हो सकते हैं लेकिन बाद में उसके कर्म और व्यवहार से आपके मन में उसके प्रति घृणा पैदा हो सकती है। दूसरी तरफ हम कभी- कभी किसी व्यक्ति को गलत समझ लेते हैं जबकि वो ऐसा नहीं होता। इसलिए बेहतर है कि हम किसी व्यक्ति के बारे में अपनी राय बनाने से पहले समय लें।

Exercise # 2

It’s pretty common that we complain about every minor discomfort in our life. We also feel, why it only happens with us! / Why we only are the victims! If we look around us, there are a number of people who are neither financially strong nor physically; but their positive thinking towards life turns their dreams into reality. You must have seen people, who have even lost a limb; still, they dare to fight against their adverse circumstances. What shall we call this? It’s nothing but their optimistic and positive perspective.

अकसर ऐसा होता है कि हम जिंदगी में छोटी-छोटी परेशानियों की शिकायत करते रहते हैं। हमें ऐसा भी महसूस होता है कि बुरा हमारे साथ ही क्यों होता है! (हम ही क्यों पीड़ित हैं!) अगर हम अपने चारों ओर देखें, तो बहुत सारे लोग जो न ही आर्थिक रुप से मजबूत हैं न ही शारीरिक रुप से; लेकिन फिर भी जीवन के प्रति उनकी सकारात्मक (पॉजिटिव) सोच उनके सपनों को हकीकत में बदल देती है। आपने ऐसे लोग भी जरुर देखे होंगे जो अपने शरीर का कोई अंग तक खो चुके होते हैं, फिर भी वो अपनी विपरीत परिस्थितियों से लड़ने की हिम्मत करते हैं। हम इसे क्या कहें? ये कुछ और नहीं बल्कि उनका आशावादी और साकारात्मक दृष्टिकोण है।

English Writing # 3 

Today, I am going to share with you a true story of one of my best friends. I wouldn’t like to reveal his name though. In Aug’18, his health was perfect. He used to go for a morning walk early at 5, run for about a km or so every day. I remember an evening when I asked him how he managed it. I remember telling him, “you wake up at 5, I wake up at 6. We can’t have a morning walk together. However, I am planning to change my routine. Hopefully, I will join you soon.

आज मैं आपके साथ मेरे एक दोस्त की एक सच्ची कहानी शेयर करने वाला हूँ। हालाँकि मैं उसका नाम उजागर नहीं करना चाहूँगा। अगस्त 2018 में वो बिल्कुल ठीक था। वह 5 बजे सुबह सुबह मार्निंग वॉक के लिए जाता था, लगभग एकाध किलोमीटर रोज दौड़ता था। मुझे वो एक शाम याद है, जब मैंने उससे पूछा कि  वो ये कैसे  मैनेज करता है। मुझे ये भी याद आता है कि मैंने उससे कहा था, “तू 5 बजे उठते हो, मैं 6 बजे उठता हूँ। हम सुबह एक साथ वॉक नहीं कर सकते। हाँ, वैसे मैं अपने रुटीन को बदलने की प्लैनिंग कर रहा हूं, उम्मीद है कि मैं जल्द ही तुझे ज्वाइन करूँगा ।

Suddenly, one day, when I was at work, I heard that he was rushed to a hospital due to a high blood pressure problem. I immediately took permission from my manager and left to visit him. By the time I reached there, he was quite stable but under doctor’s supervision. He remain admitted, I think, for about 7 to 8 hours that day.

अचानक, एक दिन, जब मैं ऑफिस में था, मैंने सुना कि हाई ब्लडप्रेशर की वजह से उसे हॉस्पिटल ले जाया गया। मैंने तुरंत अपने मैनेजर से अनुमति ली और उससे मिलने के लिए रवाना हो गया। जब तक मैं वहाँ पहुँचा, उसकी तबियत बिल्कुल स्थिर हो चुकी थी, लेकिन अभी भी वो डॉक्टर के सुपरविजन में ही था। शायद वो उस दिन लगभग 7 से 8 घंटे एडमिट रहा।

This incident onwards, his health started deteriorating day by day. Just after a few days, I happened to meet him in the park.  He informed me that he was diagnosed with some major infection in both of his kidneys. Even, I could easily figure out a discernible change in his physical appearance. I was terribly hurt because he was a very good friend of mine indeed.

इस घटना के बाद, उनका स्वास्थ्य दिन-ब-दिन बिगड़ता गया। कुछ दिनों के बाद, संयोग से मैं पार्क में उससे मिला। उसने मुझे बताया कि उसकी दोनों किडनी में कुछ मेजर इंनफेक्शन का पता चला है। मैं उसे देखकर इस बात को महसूस कर सकता था कि वो बीमार है। मुझे बहुत दुख हुआ, क्योंकि वह वास्तव में मेरा बहुत अच्छा दोस्त था।

A few weeks later, he along with his family had to relocate to Delhi for the treatment. I had seen him fit just a while ago and now he was at his worse. He had to be hospitalized. He was on dialysis for weeks. When I got to know that kidney transplant was the last resort of his survival. I, from inside, was completely broken. I can’t express that agony in words.

कुछ हफ्ते बाद, उसे अपने परिवार के साथ इलाज के लिए दिल्ली शिफ्ट होना पड़ा। मैंने कुछ समय पहले ही उसे फिट देखा था और अब वह अपनी सबसे खराब स्थिति में था। उसे अस्पताल में भर्ती होना पड़ा। वह हफ्तों तक डायलिसिस पर था। जब मुझे पता चला कि किडनी ट्रांसप्लांट उसके जीने का आखिरी सहारा है, मैं अंदर से पूरी तरह से टूट गया। मैं उस दर्द को शब्दों में बयाँ नहीं कर सकता।

Seeing his life in danger, his mother decided to donate one of her kidneys to save his life. It could have been life-threatening for her too, but she was adamant; because, a mother is a mother.  

उसके जीवन को खतरे में देखकर, उसकी माँ ने उसकी जान बचाने के लिए अपनी एक किडनी उसे देने का फैसला किया। यह उसकी माँ के लिए भी जानलेवा हो सकता था, लेकिन वह अड़ी हुई थी; क्योंकि, एक माँ तो माँ ही होती है।

Now, I am so happy that the kidney transplant operation has been successful. He and his mother both are fine. This one year hasn’t been less than a nightmare for all of us, but all is well that ends well. I don’t know if I will ever be able to join him in the morning walks now, as he is not living nearby anymore; but he is the part of my life. I wish him all the best and I always pray for his beautiful life ahead.

अब मैं बहुत खुश हूँ कि किडनी ट्रांसप्लांट ऑपरेशन सफल रहा। वो और उसकी माँ दोनों ठीक हैं। यह एक साल हम सभी के लिए किसी बुरे सपने से कम नहीं रहा है, लेकिन अंत भला तो सब भला। मैं नहीं जानता, फिर कभी मैं उसके साथ मार्निंग वॉक पर जा भी पाऊंगा, क्योंकि वह अब वह मेरे आस पास नहीं रहता; लेकिन वो मेरे जीवन का एक हिस्सा है। मैं उसे शुभकामनाएँ देता हूँ और हमेशा उसके अच्छे जीवन के लिए प्रार्थना करता हूँ ।
