Hail (n.) – हेल – ओला /बौछार – Hailstone / Hailstorm / Shower
- दिल्ली में बरसात के दौरान कई जगहों पर ओले पड़ते हैं जिससे लोगों के ऐसा एहसास होता है कि वह शिमला में हैं।
In many areas of Delhi during rainfall, there is hail-storm along with it which makes people feel as if they were in Shimla. - शिमला में भारी बर्फ़ बारी और ओले पड़ने के कारण वहाँ के कई रास्तों को बंद कर दिया गया है।
In Shimla, many routes have been blocked due to heavy snowfall and hail storms. - ओलों से फसलों को नुकसान पहुँचता है।
Hail causes damage to crops. - गोलियों की बौछार से सैनिक मारे गए।
The soldiers were killed by a hail of bullets.
Hale-(n.) – हेल – स्वस्थ – Healthy / Robust
- एक स्वस्थ दिमाग, एक स्वस्थ शरीर के अंदर ही काम करता है इसलिए ताज़े फल और सब्ज़ियाँ खानी चाहिए।
A healthy mind works in a hale and hearty body, therefore fresh fruits and vegetables should be eaten. - चाहे कितनी भी व्यस्तता क्यों हो, दिन का कुछ समय कसरत के लिए ज़रूर निकलना चाहिए क्योंकि सेहत से बड़ा कुछ नहीं है।
However busy one might be, some part of the day should be taken out for exercise as nothing is above health.
Halt (vt.) – हॉल्ट – ठहरना / पड़ाव / रुकना – Stop
- राजधानी एक्सप्रेस उन कुछ चुनिंदा ट्रेनों में से एक है जो इतने लम्बे सफर में भी महज चंद जगहें ठहरती है।
Rajdhani Express is one of the few trains which takes halt at a few stations despite the journey being so long. - मंज़िल की तरफ चलने के दौरान कई पड़ाव आते हैं, हमें सहजता के साथ आगे बढ़ते जाना है।
While moving towards our goal, we have several halts; we need to move subtly.
Handle (v. & n.) – हैंडल – संभालना/हैंडल – To care or manage / Handgrip
- रोते हुए बच्चों को संभालना मुश्किल है।
It’s hard to handle crying babies. - इस दरवाजे का हैंडल टूटा हुआ है।
The handle of this door is broken.
Hardly (adv.) – हार्ड्ली – शायद ही / मुश्किल से – Scarcely / Barely
- आपका हुलिया इतना बदल गया है कि मैं आपको शायद ही पहचान पाऊँ।
Your appearance has changed so much that I can hardly recognize you. - ग्रामीण इलाकों में बच्चे मुश्किल से धाराप्रवाह अंग्रेजी बोल पाते हैं।
Children in rural areas hardly speak English fluently.
Haste-(n.) – हेस्ट – जल्दी / हड़बड़ी – Hurry
- स्कूल जाने के दौरान माँ बड़ी जल्दी में बच्चों के लिए नाश्ता बनती है और उन्हें तैयार भी करती है।
While going to school, mother prepares the breakfast for kids in haste along with getting them ready. - हमारी यही बुरी आदत है कि हम समय पर काम नहीं करते हैं और फिर, जब काम पूरा करने का समय आता है तो हम हड़बड़ी में गलती कर बैठते हैं।
We all have the bad habit of not doing the work on time, and when the deadline for the work approaches, we start doing things in haste and end up making mistakes.
Hatred (n.) – हेट्रेड – नफरत / ईर्ष्या / घृणा – Malice / Hate / Abomination / Disgust
- जब से मुझे सुनील के गलत कामों के बारे में पता चला है, मुझे उससे नफरत हो गयी है।
Since I have come across the evil deeds of Sunil, I have developed a sense of hatred against him. - दुनिया में हर जगह बहुत नफरत और दूरियाँ हैं, हमें इन सभी को मिटा कर, प्यार और ख़ुशियाँ बांटनी है।
There are differences and hatred everywhere in the world, and we have to remove them and spread love and happiness.
Haughty-(n.) – हॉटी- घमंडी – Arrogant
- जब से मितेश के पास पैसे आये हैं, वह बहुत ही घमंडी हो गया है।
Since Mitesh has become rich, he has become very haughty. - असली चरित्र की पहचान तब होती है जब पैसा और शोहरत मिलने के बाद भी इंसान घमंडी होने के बजाय पहले जैसा ही व्यवहार करे।
The real identification of one’s character is when a person, after he gets money and fame, doesn’t get haughty and behaves the same way he/she used to do before.
Havoc (n.) – हैवक – विनाश / तबाही – Ravage / Disaster / Desolation
- जब मुंबई के ताज होटल पर हमला हुआ था तब पूरे मुंबई शहर में तबाही सी मच गयी थी।
When Mumbai’s Taj Hotel was attacked then havoc was created all over Mumbai. - अपने पहले मैच में शून्य पर आउट होना, सचिन के लिए किसी तबाही से काम नहीं था।
Getting out on a duck in his first match was nothing less than a havoc for Sachin.
Hazard (n.) – हैज़र्ड – जोखिम, खतरा – Danger / Risk
- गन्दगी वाली जगहों में पानी पीना जोखिम भरा है।
To drink water at non hygienic places is a health hazard. - ज़रूरत से ज़्यादा इसका प्रयोग वातावरण के लिए ठीक नहीं है।
Its excessive use is an environmental hazard.
Headstrong (adj.) – हैड्सट्रॉन्ग – हठी / जिद्दी – Stubborn
- रयान जब छोटा बच्चा था तब वह बहुत ही ज़्यादा ज़िद्दी था।
When Ryan was a small child, he was headstrong. - बड़े इग्ज़ैम में सफल होने के लिए, हमें मेहनत करने के प्रति हठी बनना पड़ता है तब जा कर कहीं सफलता हाथ लगती है।
To succeed in big examinations, we have to become headstrong in terms of hard -work, after that we get success.
Heal (v.) – हील – भरना / ठीक होना – Cure
- रोहन की टूटी बाँह को ठीक होने में कई हफ्ते लग गए।
Rohan’s broken arm took several weeks to heal. - कहा जाता है कि समय सभी घावों को भर देता है।
It is said that time heals all the wounds.
Heap– (n.) – हीप – ढेर – Pile / Mass / Group
- जब निमेष बीच पर खेलने गया तो उसने अपने छोटे भाई जयंत के साथ मिलकर रेत का एक बहुत बड़ा ढेर बना दिया।
When Nimesh went to the beach to play, he along with his younger brother Jayant made a vast heap of sand. - पिताजी ने कूड़े वाले को पुराने अख़बार और मैगज़ीन बेचे तो घर के बाहर अख़बार का बहुत ऊँचा ढेर बन गया था।
When papa sold the old newspaper and magazines to the garbage collector, then a massive heap of newspapers was formed outside the house.
Hearsay (n.) – हियर्से – चर्चा / अफवाह – Rumour
- आये दिन, अख़बारों और टीवी पर अभिनेताओं और खिलाड़ियों के बारे में अफ़वाहें आती रहती हैं।
These days, newspapers and television have hearsay related to actors and players. - सोशल मीडिया और व्हाट्सप्प पर बहुत सारे गलत अफ़वाह फैलती रहती हैं इसलिए किसी भी खबर की पहले पड़ताल खुद करें फिर उसे किसी से साझा करें।
There are lots of fake hearsay going on in social media and WhatsApp, and that’s why any news should be checked first and then shared.
Heir (n.) – एयर – वारिस – Successor / Scion / Inheritor
- पुराने समय में राजा की मृत्यु के बाद, उसकी गद्दी पर उसके वारिस का ही हक़ होता था।
In ancient times, after the death of the king, the throne was to be succeeded by his heir. - आज कल संपत्ति के वारिस को लेकर सरकार ने कई कड़े और असरदार कानून बनाये हैं।
Nowadays, there have been many rules and laws that have been made by the government regarding the heir to the property.
Hereabout (adv.) – हियरअबाउट – आस पड़ोस में – Around / Near
- जहाँ मेरा घर है, उसके बिलकुल आस – पड़ोस में एक छोटी सी पान की दुकान है।
Where my home is, there is a small pan shop in the hereabouts. - मनोज अक्सर अपने घर से बाहर आस पड़ोस में खेलने निकल जाता है और उसके घरवाले परेशान रहते हैं।
Manoj often goes playing in the park, which is in hereabouts of his house, and his family members remain worried.
Heredity-(n.) – हेरीडिटी – वंशज / परंपरागत गुण / आनुवांशिकता – Inherit Traits
- रोहित की लम्बाई लगभग छै फुट है और उसके बाल भूरे हैं, इसका पूरा श्रेय उसके पिता को जाता है जिनसे उसे ये परंपरागत गुण मिले हैं ।
Rohit is around six feet tall, and his hair is brown, all credit goes to his father from which he has got these traits as a part of heredity. - हमारा भविष्य या सफलता, हमारे वंशगतता (आनुवांशिकता) पे निर्भर नहीं करती बल्कि इस पर करती है कि हम कितनी मेहनत करते हैं।
Our future or success doesn’t depend on our heredity; instead, it relies on the fact, how much we work hard.

- यह बहुत ज़रूरी कागज़ हैं इसलिए इनमें नीचे लिखे नियम और सारी शर्तों को ध्यान से पढ़ें।

Please don’t hesitate to ask questions. - लोगों को पुलिस से संपर्क करने में बिलकुल नहीं हिचकिचाना चाहिए।
People should not hesitate at all to contact the police. - क्या आप इंग्लिश में बोलते समय झिझकते हैं?
Do you hesitate while speaking in English?
Hesitation (n.) – हेज़िटेशन – हिचकिचाहट – Reluctation
- विजय को पहले कभी इतने लोगों के सामने बोलने का अनुभव नहीं था तो मंच पर जाते ही वह हिचकिचाने लगा।
Vijay didn’t have the experience of speaking in front of such a huge gathering, so as soon as he went on to the stage, he started hesitating. - जब विनोद ने अपने पिताजी को नंबर बताये तो वह बहुत डर रहा था और बोलते समय हिचकिचाने लगा।
When Vinod told his marks to his father, he was quite scared and while speaking he was hesitating.
High time (phr.) – हाइ टाइम – कोई काम करने का सबसे सही समय – Right time
- ब्लॉगिंग सीखने का ये सबसे सही समय है।
It’s high time to learn blogging. - दोषियों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई करने का ये सबसे सही समय है।
It’s high time to take action against the culprits.
Hilarious (adj.) – हिलैरियस – मजेदार / मनोरंजक – Very funny / Amusing
- हम लोगों ने उसके मज़ेदार वीडियोज़ का आनंद लिया।
We enjoyed his helarious videos. - आपको यह किताब अवश्य पढ़नी चाहिए – यह मनोरंजक है।
You must read this book – it’s hilarious.
Hinder (vt.) – हिन्डर – रोकना / अड़चन डालना – Obstruct / Inhibit / Prevent
- विशाल खुद तो कभी कुछ अच्छा काम करता नहीं है और अगर कोई दूसरा अच्छा काम करे, तो उसमे वो अड़चन डाल देता है।
Vishal never does good deeds himself and hinders others when even they are doing something useful/productive. - सूरज एक बहुत ही बुद्धिमान और प्रतिभाशाली लड़का है लेकिन गरीबी और आर्थिक तंगी उसके पढ़ाई में अड़चन डाल रही है।
Suraj is a brilliant and skilful boy, but poverty and financial constraints are hindering his studies.
Hindrance (n.) – हिंड्रेंस – रूकावट – Obstacle / Impediment
- किसी की मदद नहीं कर सकते हैं तो किसी के रास्ते में रूकावट भी न डालें।
If you can’t help someone, then don’t put a hindrance in their path either. - जानवर कभी कभी रेल की पटरियों पर खड़े होकर, आने जाने वाली ट्रेनों के लिए रुकावट खड़ी कर देते हैं।
Animals sometimes stand on the rail tracks and create a hindrance to the incoming trains.
Hoarse (adj.) – होर्स – कठोर / बेसुरा / खराशयुक्त – Husky / Hard
- मधु को ठंडी रोटी पसंद नहीं है क्योंकि वह सूख कर बहुत ही कठोर हो जाती है और खाने लायक नहीं रहती।
Madhu doesn’t like dry chapatis because it becomes very hoarse when it dries up, and it is no longer good for eating. - किरण के बात न मानने पर, उसके पिताजी ने थोड़ी कठोर आवाज़ में उसे डाटा तो वह सहम गयी।
- When Kiran didn’t heed to what papa said, her father scolded her in a hoarse voice, and she got scared.
Hold (v.) –होल्ड – पकड़ना / रोकना – To grip / To seize
- रेनॉल्ड्स पेन का हैंडल पकड़ना आसान है।
The handle of Reynolds pen is easy to hold. - शिल्पा पाँच मिनट तक अपनी साँस रोक सकती है।
Shilpa can hold her breath for five minutes.
Hollow (n.) – हॉलो – खोखला / खाली / शून्य – Void / Empty
- पक्षियों की हड्डियाँ अंदर से खोखले होते हैं जिससे उन्हें उड़ने में काफी मदद मिलती है।
The bones of the birds are hollow from inside which aids them in flying. - जब लोहे पर जंग लगता है तो वह उसे अंदर से खोखला कर देता है और उसके साथ ही कमज़ोर भी।
When rust gets formed on iron, it makes it hollow from the inside and along with that it weakens it as well.
Honorary (adj.) – ऑनरेरी – सम्मानदायक / बिना तनख्वाह के – Unpaid / Unsalaried
- अक्सर सोसाइटी में सेक्रेटरी के पद पर जो होता है वह बिना तनख्वाह के काम करता है।
Often the person who works on the post of secretary in society gives an honorary service. - कई बार डॉक्टरेट की डिग्री, अपने क्षेत्र में माहिर लोगों को सम्मानदायक रूप में दी जाती है।
Many times the degree of a doctorate is given to people who are expert in their field as an honorary one.
Horrible (adj.) – हॉरिबल – भयानक / डरावना – Terrifying / Horrifying / Scary
- धुंध में गाड़ी चलाते हुए, एक गाड़ी और ट्रक का बहुत ही भयानक तरीके से दुर्घटना हुई।
While driving in the fog, a car and a truck had a horrible accident. - कुछ दिन पहले कोलकाता में बहुत ही भयानक आंधी आयी थी जिससे शहर में भरी तबाही हुई है।
A few days ago, a horrible storm struck Kolkata in which there has been colossal devastation in the city.
Horticulture (n.) – हॉर्टिकल्चर – बाग़वानी – Gardening
- बाग़वानी एक ऐसी शानदार तकनीक है जिससे हम यह निश्चित कर सकते हैं कि पर्यावरण सलामत रहे।
Horticulture is such a fantastic technique by which we can make sure that the environment stays safe/sustainable. - चतुर्वेदी जी का लड़का फ्रांस जाकर बाग़वानी सीख रहा है ।
Mr Chaturvedi’s son is learning about horticulture in France.
Hostile (n.)– होस्टाइल – शत्रुतापूर्ण / प्रतिरोधी – Adverse / No favorable
- जब भारत की टीम दूसरे देश में खेलती है तो प्रतिरोधी माहौल होता है, जिससे खिलाड़िओं पर बहुत ही अधिक दबाव बढ़ जाता है।
When the Indian team plays in other countries, the ambience is hostile which puts enormous pressure on the players as well. - जब उत्तर भारत में रहने वाले लोगों को चूरू जैसी गर्म जगह जाना पड़ा तो वहाँ बहुत ही प्रतिरोधी मौसम का सामना करना पड़ा।
When people living in North India had to go to hotter places like Churu then there they had to face very hostile weather conditions.
Hover (vi.) – हवर – मंडराना – Hang around / Fly round
- नत्थू हलवाई की दुकान पर जलेबियों के ऊपर मक्खियां मंडराते रहती हैं।
Flies hover around and over the Jalebis of the Nathu Confectioners. - बिना काम के लोग अक्सर इधर – उधर मंडराते रहते हैं और अपने साथ – साथ अपने दोस्तों एवं परिवार का भी समय ज़ाया करते हैं।
People without any work generally hover/roam around and waste the time of their family and friends along with theirs.
Huge (adj.) – ह्यूज – विशाल / भारी संख्या – Enormous / Vast in number
- खतरा होने के बावजूद भीम विशाल खाई में कूद गया।
Despite the danger, Bheem jumped into the huge ditch. - कोरोना वायरस के संक्रमण के कारण आजकल भारी सँख्या में लोग मर रहे हैं।
Huge number of people are dying due to corona virus infection now-a-days.
Humane (adj.) – ह्यूमेन – दयालु / दानवीर – Kind / Generous
- नेहा बहुत ही दयालु लड़की है, वह अक्सर रोड़ पर मिलने वाले गरीब बच्चों को खाना या कुछ पैसे दान में देती है।
Neha is a humane girl, she often donates food or some money to needy children who roam around the streets. - महाभारत के कर्ण इतने दान-वीर थे कि उन्होंने अपना कुण्डल कवच ही दान में दे दिया था, जिससे उनकी जान खतरे में पड़ गई।
Mahabharata’s Karna was so humane that he gave away his invincible shield, due to which his life fell in danger.
Humiliate (v.) – ह्यूमिलियेट – नीचा दिखाना / अपमान करना – Degrade / Embarrass
- कृपया किसी को नीचा दिखाने की कोशिश न करें।
Please do not try to humiliate anyone. - आपको उसे सार्वजनिक रूप से अपमानित नहीं करना चाहिए।
You should not humiliate her in public.
Hurry (v.) – हरी – जल्दी करना / हड़बड़ी – Be quick / Hasten
- जल्दी करो नहीं तो हमारी ट्रेन छूट जाएगी।
Hurry up or else our train will be missed. - अमन ने हड़बड़ी में घर छोड़ दिया।
Aman left home in a hurry.
Hospitality (n.) – हॉस्पिटैलिटी – आदर सत्कार / मेहमाननवाज़ी / आतिथ्य – Welcome
- जब बिल गेट्स जैसे प्रसिद्ध व्यक्ति भारत आये तो उन्होंने भारत की मेहमाननवाज़ी की बहुत तारीफ की और कहा कि यहाँ के लोग बहुत अच्छे हैं।
When a famous personality like Bill Gates came to India, then he appreciated India’s hospitality and told that people of India are noble. - मुकेश की शादी में उसके पूरे परिवार ने मिल कर सभी लोगों की बहुत अच्छे से मेहमाननवाज़ी की, किसी को भी कोई प्रकार की कमी महसूस होने ही नहीं दी।
In Mukesh’s wedding, his entire family worked together to provide outstanding hospitality to all the people; everyone’s needs were taken care of to make sure no one faces any problem.
Humanity (n.) – ह्यूमैनिटी – मानवता – Manhood / Sensible being
- जिस तरह से समाज में अपराध बढ़ रहे हैं, उससे तो यही लगता है दुनिया में अब मानवता नहीं बची है।
How crimes are increasing in society, it seems that humanity is no more left in the world. - जब खून का रिश्ता साथ नहीं देता तब मानवता की नींव ही हमें एक दूसरे से बाँध के रखती है।
When the blood relations don’t stay with us, then the foundation of humanity binds us all together.
Humble (adj.) – हम्बल – विनम्र – Kind / Generous
- अमन इतना बड़ा व्यापारी है, उसके पास बहुत पैसा है लेकिन वो फिर भी बहुत ही नम्र स्वभाव का है।
Aman is such a big business tycoon, he has a considerable net worth, but still, he is very humble. - घमंडी या अहंकारी इंसान से कोई बात करना पसंद नहीं करता , सब नम्र स्वभाव के व्यक्ति की ही इज़्ज़त करते हैं।
No one likes to talk to a haughty or arrogant person, all respect humble people only.
Humdrum (adj.) – हमड्रम – मूर्ख / नीरस / फीका – Monotonous / Dull
- पिछले पांच साल से एक ही जॉब करके उसकी ज़िंदगी बहुत ही नीरस हो चुकी है।
Doing the same job for the last five years, his life has become humdrum. - घर में बच्चों के होने से ये फायदा होता है कि वह माहौल को कभी नीरस होने ही नहीं देते हैं।
The benefit of having kids in the house is that they never let the ambience get humdrum.
Hymn (n.) – हिम – गीत / प्रार्थना – Prayer / Eulogy / Song of praise
- हर धर्म में ईश्वर का आह्वान करने के लिए एक प्रार्थना की जाती है।
In every religion, there is a hymn sung to address God with a prayer. - अक्सर स्कूलों में सुबह पढ़ाई शुरू करने से पहले बच्चे प्रार्थना करते हैं।
Often in schools, the hymns are sung by children before they start with their studies.
Hypocrite (v.t.) – हिपोक्रिट – ढोंगी / पाखंडी – Canter / Prude / Goody
- पाखंडी लोगों से दूरी बनाने में ही भलाई है नहीं तो वह हमें किसी मुसीबत में ज़रूर डाल देंगे।
It is better to stay away from hypocrites else they will surely land us in trouble. - हाल ही में कई ढोंगी बाबाओं का पर्दाफ़ाश हुआ है जो आस्था और धर्म के नाम पर, काला धंधा चलाते थे।
Recently, many hypocrite saints were exposed who used to run illegal businesses in the name of faith and religion.
